چکیده

Inferior thoracic aperture (ITA) is a 3D closed contour near the periphery of the diaphragm and the accurate detection of ITA from CT images has many important applications. However, it is very difficult to identify certain parts of the ITA from CT images due to the properties of adjacent anatomic structures and image noise. In this paper, we develop a new method to detect the full ITA contour by combining the following information: (a) parts of ITA that can be easily and accurately detected from CT images, (b) several anatomically-meaningful landmark points near or on the ITA, and (c) a statistical shape model of the ITA. Experiments are conducted on 14 real cases using the leave-one-out technique. We show that the results produced by the proposed method are better than the ones produced by a simple spline-based interpolation method.

Effect of digital elevation model’s resolution in producing flood hazard maps

Flooding is one of the most devastating natural disasters occurring annually in the Philippines. A call for a solution for this malady is very challenging as well as crucial to be addressed. Mapping flood hazard is an effective tool in determining the extent and depth of floods associated with hazard level in specified areas that need to be prioritized during flood occurrences. Precedent to the...

Long Term Follow up and Patient Satisfaction after Reduction Mammoplasty: Superomedial versus Inferior Pedicle

BACKGROUND Surgery for hypertrophied breast represents a challenge for plastic surgeons. The search for a good cosmetic breast has led to the development of many techniques. Objectives for reduction mammoplasty are to achieve elevated, symmetrical breasts, with round shape, good projection, small cicatrices that are not very perceptible, and a lasting result. METHODS This study was car...

Deformable Spatio-Temporal Shape Models: Extending ASM to 2D+Time

This paper extends 2D Active Shape Models to 2D+time by presenting a method for modelling and segmenting spatio-temporal shapes (ST-shapes). The modelling part consists of constructing a statistical model of ST-shape parameters. The model obtained describes the principal modes of variation of the ST-shape in addition to certain constraints on the allowed variations. An active approach is used i...

THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF TRAJECTORIES ON RIEMANNIAN MANIFOLDS By

This thesis consists of two distinct topics. First, we present a framework for estimation and analysis of trajectories on Riemananian manifolds. Second, we propose a framework of detecting, classifying, and estimating shapes in point cloud data. This thesis mainly focuses on statistical analysis of trajectories that take values on nonlinear manifolds. There are many difficulties when analyzing ...

Numerical modeling of the effects of joint hydraulic aperture, orientation and spacing on rock grouting using UDEC: A case study of Bakhtiary Dam of Iran

This study aims at presenting a numerical model for predicting grout flow and penetration length into the jointed rock mass using Universal Distinct Element Code (UDEC). The numerical model is validated using practical data and analytical method for grouting process. Input data for the modeling, including geomechanical parameters along with grout properties, were obtained from a case study. The...
